We currently have an opportunity available for an Advancement Web Editor for the UC Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall). Boalt Hall is one of the nation's great centers for legal education, ever exploring and pushing new intellectual boundaries while tackling urgent, real-world issues. Berkeley Law is also known for its vibrant and engaged community of students and scholars who are committed to providing leadership and making a difference on problems of local, national, and global import. This position involves developing electronic communications when communications knowledge, rather than Information Technology knowledge, is paramount. Includes website development, communications and instruction using the web, audio, video, and other electronic media, which may involve writing, editing, designing, production and/or programming. Provides electronic communications web support for the Alumni Center via the Law School’s communications department. Under the general supervision of the Editorial Director, Electronic Media, works with constituents to coordinate long and short term electronic communication goals for the Alumni Center. As a key frontline person, the incumbent possesses a positive, professional and customer service-oriented attitude, and is responsible for website maintenance and other Alumni Center support as needed. Website maintenance includes updating Alumni Center web pages, maintaining the online giving form, posting images from Alumni events, and creating new web pages, as needed. Responsibilities: • 50% - Write, edit, manage and post Web content. • 20% - Produce layout for a variety of web-site needs. • 20% - Participate in meetings with clients on a variety of electronic communications projects including moderately complex assignments. Develop, present, and recommend web content and visual material. • 10% - Assist as assigned with highly complex projects, including monitoring web sites and responding or drafting responses to complex or sensitive e-mail inquiries. Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree in related area (Communications, English, Journalism) and/or equivalent experience/training and coursework in writing/editing for publications • Thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of writing, grammar, syntax, editorial style, and punctuation, including skill to write in a clear and lively style • Thorough understanding of technical language and requirements of the assigned work • Thorough knowledge of content management systems and/or relevant web applications used for web site production • Thorough understanding of institutional processes, procedures, and applicable rules and regulations for web communications • Familiarity with computer applications for web production, image handling, publishing and design, illustration, presentation preparation, animation, web interaction, and/or other state-of-the-art web communication capabilities. • Familiarity with fundraising and/or alumni-related activities and environments • Highly developed interpersonal communication skills • Highly developed skills to develop and implement original ideas and correctly identify and effectively solve problems Preferred: • Experience fact-checking • Experience related to legal education or legal profession • Knowledge of campus communication standards and resources This position has been designated as sensitive and may require a Criminal Background Check. We reserve the right to make employment contingent upon successful completion of a Criminal Background Check. The hiring salary range for this position is $40,764 - $58,488.
